Student arrested for attempted rape on College Hill

A 19-year-old WSU student was arrested on College Hill early Thursday morning for an alleged attempted rape, according to the Pullman Police Department.

Alexander Lee Jeung was arrested at about 1:20 a.m. on felony charges of second degree attempted rape and indecent liberties, as well as a misdemeanor charge for fourth degree assault.

Police said the victim, a 19-year-old female, was walking home when she noticed a man following her and attempting to hide from view. She became suspicious and called a friend, police said, but was attacked in a parking lot off of NE Maple Street. The man tackled and sexually attacked her, but fled when the victim screamed. A witness who heard the scream and saw the man fleeing called 911 and went to check on the woman.

The Pullman Police located Alexander Lee Jeung from the witness'description of the attacker's clothing and physical appearance. He was found on foot a couple blocks north of the alleged attack's location, police said.

The victim was treated at Pullman Regional Hospital for minor facial injuries she received during the attack.

Pullman Police Commander Chris Tennant said he wanted to compliment the male witness who took action.

"...(The witness) did not ignore the woman's screams, but was able to call 911 and give a good description of the suspect, which definitely aided in the arrest," Tennant said.

Jeung was transported to the Whitman County Jail early Thursday morning, police said.

"These types of stranger type attacks are rare," Tennant said. "So when you do have them, it's nice to be able to arrest somebody and hold them accountable for their actions."
