Ayoudo Pet Help Requests

The record breaking heat is affecting cities across North America, and many Ayoudo members have expressed concern over their pets? safety. The?American Red Cross has compiled a list of pet safety tips, which combined with social media will help keep your pet happy and healthy.

Never Leave Your Pets in the Car

Please do not leave any pets in the car as the temperature can become dangerous within seconds, and PETA?s new video with Elisabetta Canalis demonstrates why leaving your windows open just doesn?t cut it. Instead of running errands with your pet, either leave them at home or?ask for trusted help?when you need a pet sitter, or even someone to deliver the groceries you need for dinner. Try sharing your help requests on Facebook ? you may discover that one of your friends is on the way to the grocery store and can help out.

Recognize the Sign of Heat Stroke

The condition is common with many pets, and you should be extremely cautious if you own a pet with a short nose or snout, a thick fur coat, respiratory problems or is considered obese.

Be aware of the signs of heat stroke, and bring your pet to the vet as soon as you notice some of the following signs:
- Heavy panting
- Inability to calm down even after laying down
- Brick red gum colour
- Fast pulse
- Inability to get up

In order to avoid heat stroke, monitor your local weather alerts by using Twitter Search and keywords such as Heat Alert and #HeatWave along with your location. When preparing for a hot day, ask the Ayoudo community?for help?installing an A/C or try cooling down your pets with a hose throughout the day.

Keep your Pets Inside

In addition to the humidity and unbearable temperature, you should make sure pets do not exit your home or property as they might encounter hazardous plants. Keep all doors closed and locked when you are away, and only open windows out of your pets? reach. Visit ASPCA Poison Control to find out which plants and flowers are poisonous to pets, and ask a local gardening enthusiast to help you create a safe space for your family.

Stay safe and keep your pets safe by getting them to drink lots of fluids and rely on?trusted help during the hot weather.
