R.I.P. Sahara Davenport. You'll be missed. The "RuPaul's Drag Race" contestant has sadly died at the age of 27, prompting an outpouring of grief from the show that made him famous.

"Shocked &heartbroken over @SaharaDavenport," tweeted RuPaul. "Never occurred to me that we'd ever lose one of my girls. I see them as immortal."

No word yet on the cause of death. But Logo, the network that airs the reality series, mourned the loss of a drag queen sensation.

RuPaul wants to duet with Honey Boo Boo Child

"Logo is profoundly saddened by the passing of Antoine Ashley who fans around the world knew and loved as Sahara Davenport," read a statement from the cable channel. "He was an amazing artist and entertainer who'll be deeply missed by his Logo family. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family, especially his boyfriend Karl, in their time of need."

Davenport, aka Antoine Ashley, was born in Dallas and became interested in drag while studying classical dance at Southern Methodist University. After moving to New York City, he made a name for himself performing at various gay bars and nightclubs as well as appearing in ABC's "One Life to Live" and A&E's "15 Films About Madonna."

Davenport also appeared in music videos, including David Guetta and Chris Willis' "Getting' Over."

"Sons of Anarchy" actor found dead

But it was his stint competing on the second season of "RuPaul's Drag Race" for which Ashley is perhaps best remembered despite being eliminated in episode six.

"A beautiful angel has been added to Heaven. Rest in peace my sweet friend. We will miss you, Sahara Davenport," wrote fellow Drag Racer JuJu Boston on Twitter.

Added GLAAD spokesman Rich Ferraro: "In addition to being a talented performer, we also remember the great work of Antoine Ashley, known to many fans as Sahara Davenport, in support of LGBT youth organizations and GLAAD. This is a saddening loss and our thoughts are with Sahara's friends, partner and family."

Davenport is survived by boyfriend and Drag Race third season runner-up Manila Luzon, whose real name is Karl Westerberg. He tweeted Sunday night, "I love him so much.

Calif. Gov. vetoes bill that OK?d towns freeing undocumented immigrants

Damian Dovarganes / AP file

High school student Claudia Rueda, 17, center, is arrested by Los Angeles Police officers for failing to disperse, as protesters blocked the intersection of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Twin Tower Correctional Facility in Los Angeles Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012. Students demanded the passage of Assembly Bill 1081, also known as the Trust Act.

By Miranda Leitsinger, NBC News

California?s governor late Sunday vetoed a bill that would have allowed local authorities to free undocumented immigrants from custody despite requests by immigration officials to hold them for possible deportation proceedings.

The controversial practice has long been criticized by immigration advocates who say the federal requests, known as detainers or holds, cast a wide dragnet that ensnared even those who had committed minor crimes or no offenses. But Immigration and Customs Enforcement had said the program was instrumental in helping enforce immigration laws and in getting violent offenders off the streets.

In his veto message, Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr. said he could not sign the bill as written because under it ?local officers would be prohibited from complying?with an immigration detainer unless the person arrested was charged with, or has been previously convicted of, a serious or violent felony.

?Unfortunately, the list of offenses codified in the bill is fatally flawed because it omits many serious crimes,? he said. ?For example, the bill would bar local cooperation? even when the person arrested has been convicted of certain crimes involving child abuse, drug trafficking, selling weapons, using children to sell drugs, or gangs. I believe it's unwise to interfere with a sheriffs discretion? to comply with a detainer issued for people with these kinds of troubling criminal records.?

Brown noted he would work with lawmakers to improve the legislation and said undocumented immigrants ?play a major role in California's economy,?with many performing low-wage jobs that others don't want.

?Comprehensive? immigration? reform -- including a path to citizenship -- would provide tremendous economic? benefits and is long overdue,? he wrote. ?Until we have immigration reform, federal agents shouldn?t try to coerce local law enforcement officers into detaining people who?ve been picked up for minor offenses and pose no reasonable threat to their community.?

Immigration activists denounced Brown?s veto, comparing?it to Arizona?s controversial immigration law that includes a provision forcing those stopped by police to show their immigration papers.

"By vetoing the Trust Act Governor Brown has failed California's immigrant communities, imperiling civil rights and leaving us all less safe. The President's disastrous Secure Communities program is replicating Arizona's model of immigration enforcement nationally, causing a human rights crisis. Immigration and Customs Enforcement strong-armed the Governor to defend its deportation quota instead of defending Californian's rights,? Pablo Alvarado, executive director of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, said in a statement. ?On this sad day, we renew our commitment to fight to keep our families together despite the Governor and the President's insistence on seeing them torn apart."

Alvarado was referring to ICE?s ?Secure Communities? program, under which the FBI shares fingerprints of those arrested with federal immigration authorities who check to see if the person is not legally in the U.S. or if they can be removed due to a criminal conviction.

ICE says it prioritizes the deportation of those who present the most significant threats to public safety, and that it has deported more than 147,400 convicted criminal undocumented immigrants, including more than 54,200 individuals convicted of violent offenses such as murder, rape and the sexual abuse of children, under the program.?

In a statement last week, ICE Deputy Press Secretary Gillian Christensen said the agency doesn?t comment on pending state legislation.

?The identification and removal of criminal offenders is ICE?s highest priority and over the past three and half years, ICE has been dedicated to implementing smart, effective reforms to the immigration system that allow it to focus its resources on priority individuals,? she wrote in a statement, noting that the Department of Homeland Security would continue to exercise prosecutorial discretion for certain people who came to the U.S. as children and other individuals who were ?low priorities.?

?The federal government alone sets these priorities and places detainers on individuals arrested on criminal charges to ensure that dangerous criminal aliens and other priority individuals are not released from prisons and jails into our communities,? she added.

Several counties and cities have enacted ordinances that limit police cooperation with federal immigration authorities, The New York Times has reported.

Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, a San Francisco Democrat?who sponsored the legislation, told The Times that they were ?trying to bring some sanity and clarity to a program that I frankly think has gone rogue.?

?We want police to distinguish between the woman selling tamales and the gang member who has a record,? he said.

Lenovo ThinkCentre M92z

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M92z is a very good Windows 7 all-in-one business desktop. It's got quad core power, plenty of system memory, and a responsive two-point touch screen. Unfortunately, Windows 8 is right around the corner with new requirements that the system doesn't quite match.

Design and Features
The M92z is built out of standard black ThinkCentre plastic, and it looks essentially like a monitor with built-in speakers. It's very corporate-looking, matching the Lenovo components and ThinkPads you may have around your office. The system's 23-inch screen has a two-finger touch screen using the more established infrared touch technology, rather than the newer capacitive touch found on newer PCs. This isn't a problem for most business use, as corporate IT departments are unlikely to switch to Windows 8 anytime soon. Touch functionality on Windows 8 is optimized for five to ten point touch screens.

The screen is sunken into the bezel because of the IR sensors, which is less clean looking than the seamless capacitive screens like that of the M92z's consumer cousin, the Lenovo IdeaCentre A720 ($1,449 list, 4 stars) . That said, the touch screen was responsive, and the system's IPS panel was bright and visible from a wide angle. The system came mounted to a height-adjustable, pivoting and tilting monitor stand that tilted far back enough that standing users could comfortably use the system while standing. This is good for kiosk and POS (point of sale) applications like in a retial environment.

The M92z came with a wireless keyboard and mouse, which can be stowed if they're not needed. The keyboard in particular was comfortable to use and the keys felt great to type upon due to their concave, semi-oval shape. The keyboard/mouse combo uses a USB wireless dongle, which fits in one of the system's four USB 2.0 ports on the back panel. Alongside the USB 2.0 ports on the back are an Ethernet port, DisplayPort-in, DisplayPort-out, and a Kensington lock port. DisplayPort-out is useful for connecting a second monitor, while DisplayPort-in can support an additional laptop (provided it has DisplayPort) or desktop. DisplayPort-in can also extend the life of the system, since it can act like a monitor after the rest of the system has been deemed obsolete. We would like to see HDMI-in to support other devices, but since the ThinkCentre line is so business-oriented, the lack of HDMI is not a deal breaker.

Two USB 3.0 ports, audio jacks, plus a SD-based media card slot are on the left side. The system's tray-loading DVD drive is on the right side of the system. The webcam on top of the screen has a physical shutter, so you can be assured the camera is off when you're not using it. That's important for businesses with privacy policies, like government offices. It matches the innovative webcam shutter system we saw on the Lenovo ThinkCentre M71z ($917 direct, 4 stars) .

Like most Lenovo business systems, the M92z comes free of extra icons on the desktop. There are a few programs built into the system's SimpleTap touch-oriented interface, but you have to manually turn that on for the first time. You'll find eBay, Kayak, PayPal, and other services there. It's not ideal, but at least Lenovo made an effort to make some of the services work in the touch interface. It's certainly a better solution than putting a dozen extra icons all over the system.

Performance
Lenovo ThinkCentre M92z The M92z comes with an Intel Core i7-3770S processor, 8GB of memory, a 1TB hard drive, and Intel HD Graphics 4000. The combo is good enough for a 3,872 point score on PCMark 7, a test of the system's day-to-day performance. This is slightly faster than our midrange all in one Editors' Choice, the Asus ET2701INKI-B046C ($1,399 list, 4 stars) (3,512 points) , which has the same processor (but less memory). Both certainly outperform the aging Apple iMac 21.5-inch (Thunderbolt) ($1,199 list, 4.5 stars) (2,581 points) . Odd, since Apple is continuing to sell this model even though it is over a year old.

The M92z also did well on our multimedia tests: 1 minute 8 seconds on our Handbrake video test, 2:51 on our Photoshop CS5 test. The CS5 test in particular was fast for all-in-one PCs;p only the Asus ET2701INKI-B046C can match it. Systems like the recently reviewed Toshiba LX835-D3230 ($999 list, 3.5 stars) (1:17 Handbrake, 3:20 CS5) lagged behind the M92z. The 3D performance is as to be expected from an integrated Intel HD system: good for video, but only passable to poor for challenging 3D games like Crysis or Lost Planet 2. The system is fine playing casual games like Angry Birds or MMORPGs like World of Warcraft.

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M92z is a very good all-in-one PC for business. The system we tested came with 8GB of memory and a 1TB hard drive, so it can support even content creation workers like web layout folks and desktop publishing. It's certainly more than a match for the aging Apple iMac 21.5-inch platform and other utilitarian systems like the Toshiba LX835 series. However, its lack of 10-finger touch is likely to be a significant factor in future Windows 8 rollouts, so the system's eventual useful life has to be tempered by that omission. (That said, you can always use a Windows 8 optomized keyboard and mouse, but it's not the same as having a 10-point-touch screen.) It's not terrible: The system is one of the better Windows 7 touch-screen PCs out there. But the lack of 10-finger touch hold it back from unseating systems like the Asus ET2701INKI-B046C, our current midrange all in one Editors' Choice systems.

Holgorsen, West Virginia, right at home in Big 12

After a Saturday in which three quarterbacks passed for at least 550 yards and five touchdowns, let's scan the stats for a pick six of airborne feats.

___

PERFECT FIT

West Virginia's move from the Big East to the wild west of the Big 12 Conference might have seemed like an odd move at first.

Coach Dana Holgorsen and the No. 8 Mountaineers, however, have proved they are right at home in the land of some of the top offenses in the nation.

After Saturday's shootout between West Virginia and Baylor ? a game that featured 1,507 yards of offense, 133 points and 19 touchdowns ? the Big 12 is home to the top three offenses in the country.

Surprisingly, after quarterback Geno Smith threw for 656 yards and eight touchdowns in the Mountaineers' 70-63 win, Holgorsen and West Virginia are only third on that list with an average of 598.5 yards per game. The Bears are narrowly ahead in second, averaging 601.5 yards per contest, but it's Oklahoma State that tops the nation with an eye-popping 659 yards per game ? despite a gut-wrenching 41-36 loss to Texas on Saturday.

Welcome home, indeed.

And for your viewing purposes, West Virginia visits Stillwater, Okla., on Nov. 10.

___

PASSING FANCY: Smith and Baylor counterpart Nick Florence stole the show during a wild offensive weekend across the Top 25. The two quarterbacks combined for 1,237 yards passing in their back-and-forth game, finishing 1-2 in the nation in the category for the weekend.

Smith's 656 yards led the way, while Florence was no slouch with 581 yards through the air.

The Baylor quarterback's performance was the only one of the top six in the country that came in a losing effort this weekend. Miami's Stephen Morris (566 yards), Fresno State's Derek Carr (536), Miami of Ohio's Zac Dysert (516) and Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel (453) each led their teams to wins.

___

GROUND CONTROL: For all of the offense in the Big 12, the conference is also home to the top two pass defenses in the country.

Undefeated Texas Tech leads the nation, allowing only 82 yards through the air per game after giving up only 73 in a 24-13 win over Iowa State, while No. 17 Oklahoma is second ? averaging 123.7 yards passing per game.

The stingy Red Raiders (4-0) host high-flying West Virginia in two weeks.

___

PICK SIX: Offenses aren't the only ones having fun through the air this season.

Fresno State's Phillip Thomas had a pair of interceptions Saturday in the Bulldogs' 52-40 win over San Diego State. The senior now leads the nation with five interceptions this season, including a pair returned for touchdowns.

___

INTERCEPTED HOPES: Michigan was off this weekend following its 13-6 loss to No. 9 Notre Dame.

Even with the bye week, the Wolverines are tied for worst in the country in interceptions ? having thrown 10 in four games. They are tied with Idaho for 119th in the nation.

Starting quarterback Denard Robinson has thrown eight of the interceptions for Michigan, which is at Purdue next week.

___

EXTRA POINTS: Tennessee, which lost 51-44 to No. 5 Georgia on Saturday, leads the Southeastern Conference in passing with 329.2 yards per game ... Undefeated Oregon State is fourth in the country, averaging 362.7 yards after a 38-35 win over Arizona ... A pair of Beavers' receivers, Brandin Cooks and Markus Wheaton, are fifth and sixth nationally in receiving yardage per game ? combining for 269 yards per game. ... Marshall's Rakeem Cato is third nationally with 384 yards passing per game ... Overall, Big 12 teams lead all conferences with an average of 41 points per game ... The Atlantic Coast Conference is second with 33.9, while SEC teams are averaging 33.2 points per game.

Have Women Embraced The Porn Culture? | Psychology Today

A provocative new article? by Dr. Patrick Wanis charges that women may be harming themselves by embracing the culture of pornography. As journalist Charlotte Raven observed, the sex industry has successfully rebranded itself as a "chic lifestyle choice."? Professor of Communications Angela McRobbie?concurs that pornography is "no longer divorced from the heartland of advertising, branding and consumer culture, it sits quite comfortably within the mainstream of popular culture thanks also to the fashion for sleaze style and the love of irony on the part of "cool" tastemakers." Unfortunately, as? Gail Dines, professor of sociology and women's studies and chairwoman of the American Studies Department at Wheelock College?writes in her recent book "Pornland: How Porn Hijacked Our Sexuality", the goal of pornography often seems to be to depict the maximum amount of humiliation on the women they feature. It certainly is a testament to the incredible persuasive power of the media of movies, television, the internet, and music that women would?ever?consider ?endorsing such an industry.

Dr. Wanis says that as this pole dancing, full frontal fashion?becomes a socially acceptable part of our mainstream culture, it?can have?tremendous effects on girls and young women?who?are exposed to and may embrace the values of pornography: "women and the media have linked consuming porn or behaving like a porn actress with instant money, fame, power, glamour, prestige, respectability, and social acceptability."? For instance, Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian used sex? to become international phenomenons. They both became instant celebrities by making sex tapes and?then parlayed the notoriety to create successful fashion and?perfume lines and television shows?or movie roles?without having any discernable talent. The examples?of these?two dominating personalites,? as well as other porn-embracing?female celebrities such as Madonna, Kate Moss, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Kylie Minogue, aren't lost on our youth.

Professor ?Dines believes that pornography distorts "the way women and girls think about their bodies, their sexuality and their relationships."?This "distortion" can only lead to more emphasis on the specious values of physical attraction and charm, which are highly valued in porn culture,?instead of seeking romance based on shared interests, values and compatible personalities. This?overemphasis on the physical results in?unfulfilling?unions and weak, unsatisfying?marriages that don't survive the test of time. We urge American women and men to reject the mindless, empty values promoted by the media and make healthy choices.

How To Get And Stay Trim And Fit

If you have no idea how to do it, losing weight may be a bit hard. It is very difficult to do so if you feel you have attempted all possible methods and nothing has worked for you. The following article shares some tried and true ways that you can say good-bye to the extra weight.

Make sure to keep your stress in check so as to avoid weight gain. When bodies feel stressed, they go into a state of defense and hold on to fat and extra calories. Although you are aware your stress is just temporary, your body may think you are trying to fight off some terrible thing. Large amounts of stress can contribute to weight gain.

Adding green vegetables into your diet are great for weight loss because they have ?super food? qualities. These foods are rich in fiber, minerals and nutrients. Some greens which are excellent to enjoy include broccoli, green beans or spinach. By adding these to your diet, you will see results!

If weight gain is a constant in your life, it?s best to steer clear of any buffets. These buffets where you are allowed to eat any amount that you want, encourage overeating and will make you lose sight of your weight loss goals. Overeating will not help your weight loss goals, and it affects your health in many ways.

It is easier to lose weight when you keep yourself active. Sit down as little as possible throughout the day. This helps keep your metabolic level up so that you are constantly burning calories and losing weight.

Eat slowly, enjoy your meal and participate in conversation. Our bodies sometimes get confused and don?t know when we are full. Make a habit of pausing halfway during a meal. When you pause, try to determine your level of hunger. When you start eating again, think about how much more food you will need.

Scan the outer perimeter of the grocery store for healthy foods. Fruits, vegetables, meats, and other fresh deli goods are nutritious and can be found here. Try to avoid the snacks and desserts, which are usually all clustered in one group. Avoid the aisles that have these foods and you avoid temptation.

A good tip for losing weight is to keep your dish sizes small. Bigger dishes will just make you put more on your plate, making you overeat. By using a 9 inch plate for your meals, you will be serving yourself the proper amount. If you have a plate that is bigger than this, then your are using a plate that is very big.

Make your meat leaner for weight loss. Have you ever tried eating just salsa or chutney made of vegetables, instead of eating cream or steak sauces with sweet barbecue? If you use a low fat sauce it will add flavor to your meat, and help to keep it moist. A variety of fruity and sweet chutney flavors are available and can add flavor to your meat.

Low-calorie versions of favorite foods can be helpful here. For example, request or use low-fat cheese on pizza and pick low-fat ice cream as a treat rather than the high fat options. If you drink soda or beer, switch to diet or light.

Angel food cake is a good dessert option should you get a craving for sweets. This is a good option for times when your cravings are too powerful to resist. There are soft, light cakes such as angel food or sponge cakes which contain a lot of air. They also have less calories than other cakes.

When you are attempting to shed those pounds, watch what you eat. Combining a nutritious diet with consistent exercise will help you slim down, and become healthier. It is essential to use more calories than you ingest.

Stick to the plan and you?ll notice the pounds drift away as you lose weight. It is important to take one day at a time. As a human, you may slip up on your diet. Remember to not beat yourself up if you slip up a day here and there on your diet. Tomorrow brings a new day and offers you a chance to start over.

Misconduct, not error, accounts for most scientific paper retractions: 10-fold increase in fraud-related retractions found

ScienceDaily (Oct. 1, 2012) ? In sharp contrast to previous studies suggesting that errors account for the majority of retracted scientific papers, a new analysis -- the most comprehensive of its kind -- has found that misconduct is responsible for two-thirds of all retractions. In the paper, misconduct included fraud or suspected fraud, duplicate publication and plagiarism. The paper's findings show as a percentage of all scientific articles published, retractions for fraud or suspected fraud have increased 10-fold since 1975.

The study, from a collaboration between three scientists including one at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, published online October 1 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).

"Biomedical research has become a winner-take-all game -- one with perverse incentives that entice scientists to cut corners and, in some instances, falsify data or commit other acts of misconduct," said senior author Arturo Casadevall, M.D., Ph.D. , the Leo and Julia Forchheimer Chair and professor of microbiology & immunology and professor of medicine at Einstein. Dr. Casadevall is also editor-in-chief of the journal mBio.

The study reviewed 2,047 papers retracted from the biomedical literature through May 2012. To determine the reasons for the retractions, the researchers consulted several secondary sources, such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Research Integrity and Retractionwatch.com, which investigate scientific misconduct.

The researchers found that about 21 percent of the retractions were attributable to error, while 67 percent were due to misconduct, including fraud or suspected fraud (43 percent), duplicate publication (14 percent), and plagiarism (10 percent). Miscellaneous or unknown reasons accounted for the remaining 12 percent.

"What's troubling is that the more skillful the fraud, the less likely that it will be discovered, so there likely are more fraudulent papers out there that haven't yet been detected and retracted," said Dr. Casadevall.

Earlier studies that underestimated the extent of scientific misconduct relied solely on the journals' retraction notices, which are written by the papers' authors, according to Dr. Casadevall. "Many of those notices are wrong," he said. "Authors commonly write, 'We regret we have to retract our paper because the work is not reproducible,' which is not exactly a lie. The work indeed was not reproducible -- because it was fraudulent. Researchers try to protect their labs and their reputations, and these retractions are written in such a way that you often don't know what really happened."

The PNAS study also found that journals with higher impact factors (a measure of a publication's influence in scientific circles) had especially high rates of retractions. Dr. Casadevall attributes the growing number of retracted papers to the prevailing culture in science, which disproportionately rewards scientists for publishing large numbers of papers and getting them published in prestigious journals.

"Particularly if you get your papers accepted in certain journals, you're much more likely to get recognition, grants, prizes and better jobs or promotions," he said. "Scientists are human, and some of them will succumb to this pressure, especially when there's so much competition for funding. Perhaps our most telling finding is what happened after 2005, which is when the number of retractions began to skyrocket. That's exactly when NIH funding began to get very tight."

In a recent article in Infection and Immunity, Dr. Casadevall proposed various solutions to the problem of scientific misconduct, including:

The retraction study's findings weren't all gloom and doom. "There is a very optimistic piece of data in the paper," noted Dr. Casadevall: 43 percent of all retractions came from just 38 of the thousands of labs worldwide. "So while we're not looking at a systemic disease, so to speak, in the scientific community, our findings do indicate a significant problem that needs to be addressed."

The paper is titled, "Misconduct accounts for the majority of retracted scientific publications." Additional authors are Ferric Fang, M.D. (University of Washington School of Medicine, Seattle, WA) and R. Grant Steen, Ph.D. (Medical Communications Consultants, Chapel Hill, NC).

b! review Ignis @ Connaught Place | Delhi | Know your city

Our burrper MangoM braved Delhi traffic to Inner Circle to eat some highway off her platter at Ignis and came back fairly satiated, although she had expected much much more.

Situated in the heart of the national capital?Connaught Place?Ignis is one of the city?s posh eateries. As soon as we entered, Frank Sinatra greeted us by singing ?Don?t change your mind about me?. We promised him we won?t and took our seats. The decor of the place comes across a tad bit garish with drum like shapes trying to adorn, but actually ruining the ceiling. Then there was a strange eight-shaped structure which hangs mid-way on the wall that divides the seating area. The friend who had tagged along with me was curious to know what that symbol means. The waiter informed him that it is a symbol of fire, to ignite your hunger? hmm ?hunger for what?? we wanted to ask.

After slogging at our work places the whole day, the thought of wholesome dhaba food sounded heavenly and our tummies were growling out their cravings- thank God one can now experience this in an air conditioned fine dining setting now. However, being a vegetarian and reviewing food is like trying to put a square peg in a round hole and especially when the world is insensitive towards us vegetarians. However, I didn?t expect to face such discrimination in India. I was almost in tears to see that while my friend?being a non-vegetarian?had plenty of stuff to order from the starters section (well not really, just two items, but still!), there was nothing for me. So while my friend ordered Paramjeet ki Tandoori Machhi (a special dish from the popular Paramjeet da Dhaba in Karnal), I had to make do with Ludhiyana ka Kadak Paneer (a dish from the main course section).

For the first round of drinks I opted for a Long Island Iced Tea (I just love the bloody drink) and my friend ordered the Ignis special. The Long Island was nice, but not Hard-Rock-Cafe-nice. I wasn?t too happy, but not disappointed either. The Ignis Special however, was spectacular, to say the least. A concoction of watermelon, musk melon and vodka, it tasted absolutely fantastic. While we were quite impressed with the drinks, the starters were a bit of let down. Let?s just say that Paramjeet won?t be all too pleased with the Ignis rendition of his Tandoori Machhi. It lacked the much needed spicy flavour; the carom seed (ajwain) flavour overpowered the dish. Cooked in mustard oil and coated with gram flour, this should have been an absolute delight, but the blandness made it taste like ?boneless fish cooked in ajwain? (so says my friend). The Ludhiana ka Kadak Paneer was bit too soft and failed to justify its name, and it also could have done with a bit more spice.

After the disappointing starters, it was time to order the main course. While my friend ordered Colonel ji Da Meat, I ordered Bharan da Palak Paneer; Haveli ke Kulchey were ordered for the both of us. My friend informed me that Colonel Ji Da Meat tasted like Mutton Rara, but with a difference. So we checked with Mmanav (who has been a chef with the Taj Group for seven years) about the difference in taste. He tells me that it is exactly the same recipe as Rara, but what the good Colonel of the dhaba fame did was, he broke an egg over the gravy and a unique dish was born. In the words of my trusted ally who tasted everything on the table (unlike yours truly) this was the best dish served. The meat was cooked well, the spices were added in generous amount this time, and the gravy (all thanks to Colonel Uncle) was a treat to the taste buds. The palak paneer?if you are a North Indian?is something you have grown up eating. They still managed to mess it up. It was bland (again!). The Haveli ke Kulche, however, were a refreshing change for me. The bread stuffed with mashed potato, Indian herbs and lime was a gastronomical delight. Now this may sound like aloo parantha, but the kulcha was nothing like it; it was fatter, more dough-y, fluffy and had a sour tang to it.

By now, we were done with our first set of drinks, and were looking forward to the second round. This time we settled for something ?desi? to blend with the food. ?So we ordered the Whiskey Desi Narangi and Pehli Dhar Ki Mausami. Served in dhaba-esque glasses, these were the best things on the Highway on your platter menu. Extracted straight from the desi sharab ka theka these were drinks which you won?t normally get in posh/semi-posh/not-posh-at-all places, unless you are sitting in a desi sharab ki dukaan. The spoilt and not-so-spoilt Delhi-ites alike should try these, because let?s face it, most of us haven?t visited these thekas and chances are that we never will.

Finally, we ordered the Sher-e-Punjab Kheer, which was your regular chawal ki kheer, but garnished with peanuts instead of almonds. The peanuts gave the kheer a weird flavour, but it was the ?good weird?.

The verdict? The food wasn?t all that great, Indian food is popular for its spicy flavour, which was missing in most of the dishes; the drinks were the best things on the menu. As we got ready to leave, Bryan Adams asked us, ?Have you ever really loved a woman.? My answer to this would be: if you have, and if she is a vegetarian, don?t bring her here.
